Birmingham Guides & Information

German Christmas Market Food Guide

Here at Park Regis we love Christmas in Birmingham for many reasons; the decorations, the movies, the fun, and, of course, the chance to listen to Michael Buble on repeat for a month. But while we do love so many things about December, we can’t deny that there’s perhaps one guilty pleasure that has our mouths watering and our stomachs grumbling — getting to indulge ourselves in all those delicious Christmas treats. From the golden Christmas day turkey, to sticky Christmas puddings, to dainty little gingerbread men, we love filling up on every single Christmas treat that we can find. And, as any Christmas fanatic knows, when it comes to Christmas food, you can’t beat a German Christmas market.

The Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market in Victoria Square is open for business at every day from 10am to 9pm until December 23, 2018. This is undoubtedly one of our favourite go-to places around December. After all, there’s nothing better than sipping on some mulled wine whilst perusing sparkling ornaments and chowing down on a delicious bratwurst sausage.

As self-proclaimed Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market experts, we thought that we would combine our passion for Christmas with our love for Birmingham’s tasty food. The result is the ultimate festive food guide to help you find and track down some of Birmingham’s best Frankfurt Christmas Market treats.

Perfect Pretzels

A real treat for the tastebuds, if you’re visiting a German Christmas Market this year, be sure to sample a delicious doughy pretzel. A far cry from the crispy British pretzel from a packet, these traditional pretzels are warm and bursting with flavour, and are an absolute must for any bread fanatic.

Chocolate Concoctions

When it comes down to it, everyone knows that Christmas is all about chocolate. From the tins of Roses and Celebrations under the tree, to the mandatory Terry’s chocolate orange, chocolate treats are a big part of Christmas, and a definite highlight for us here at Park Regis. Why not treat yourself this year and sample some of the many chocolatey treats that can be found around Birmingham’s German Christmas Market? From stately works of art to simple delectable bites, there’s something to satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth.

Fantastic Frankfurters and Brilliant Bratwursts

When it’s cold and wintery, there’s nothing quite like a warm tasty hotdog to keep you nice and toasty from the chilly weather. And when it comes to hot dogs, there’s nothing quite as Christmassy as a traditional German sausage. Sizzling away on an open fire grill, there’s an array of bratwursts and frankfurters to choose from, all bursting with flavour. Why not treat yourself and sample them all? After all it is Christmas!

A Festive Nutty Feast

The ultimate Christmas snack, nothing is quite as tasty and flavoursome than a delicious pick and mix of nuts. A quick moorish snack, they’re a festive treat that never fails to hit the spot. You’ll go nuts for the mouth watering selection of almonds and nuts available to choose from at Birmingham’s German Christmas Market. Covered in chocolate, toasted, fried or roasted, there’s a delectable and seemingly never ending selection to choose from.

Splendid Stollen

A delicious traditional treat not to be missed, Christmas stollen is the highlight of Birmingham’s German Christmas Market, and an absolute must for any foodie. A sweet and scrumptious cake, the stollen is filled with fruit, almonds and marzipan, making it the ultimate Christmas snack. If you haven’t tried stollen before, we definitely suggest that you put it at the very top of your German Christmas Market to do list.

Scrumptious Sauerkraut

Perfect for vegetarians and anyone who loves flavoursome festive food, sauerkraut is a traditional German dish of pickled cabbage. The perfect addition to any sandwich, or even just delicious on its own, sauerkraut is a tastebud treat that’s not to be missed.
