Free Cherry Blossom Tree Concert, Workshop & Picnic at Oozells Square, Birmingham
Cherry blossom season is soon the bloom again in Oozells Square. Also known as Sakura, cherry blossom trees compliment their surroundings with an eye-catching pop of pastel pink. The only downside is that the season is very short-lived! Oozells Square attracts visitors, photographers, and a free event every year, to honour the famous cherry blossom trees. Collaborating with Brindley Place and IKON Gallery, which is nestled within the cherry blossom trees in Oozells Square, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group (BCMG), brings an hour-long, free event for all ages to celebrate one of nature’s most captivating seasonal moments of the year. From 28th March – 12th April 2026, Birmingham Botanical Gardens invites the whole family for a family-friendly Easter experience, set within the beautiful grounds of Birmingham Botanical Gardens. This imaginative outdoor event invites visitors to relax on picnic blankets or giant beanbags and gaze at the sky while learning about cloud formations, weather, and the natural world. Families can also enjoy ‘Cloudscapes’, an immersive audio storytelling experience that blends science and imagination, as well as explore the whimsical ‘Cloud Library’, filled with sky-themed stories, photographs, and activities. With spring blooms across the gardens, Victorian glasshouses to explore, and cafés and playgrounds on site, it’s a great way to spend a relaxed spring day outdoors in Birmingham. Explore Cannon Hill Park
There’s nothing like fresh air. Retreat from the city buzz at Cannon Hill Park. Birmingham’s very own little oasis offers plenty of outdoor activities to get the steps in and cheeks rosy from all the fresh air. Start off on the Boating Lake on a swan pedal boat where you can soak up the lovely sights of the park by water! Visit lots of different animals in the Nature Centre including reptiles, birds, monkeys, red pandas, and other furry favourites such as guinea pigs, goats, pigs and sheep. Other activities available include the Land Train, sports facilities, mini golf at Golden Putter, cafes, and the MAC Centre which includes a theatre, cinema, workshops and more.
Tolkien Tour Trail
Are you a fan of Lord of the Rings? Did you know that J. R. R. Tolkien lived in Birmingham between the ages of 4-8 years old? Tolkien took inspiration from Birmingham’s natural surroundings and buildings to craft the fantasy world of Middle Earth. You can see Birmingham through the eyes of Tolkien himself by embarking on The Tolkien Trail! This is completely free to do with the family and the trail is 2 miles in length. You will journey you through the likes of Sarehole Mill, Moseley Bog and Joy’s Wood, The Shire Country Park and Cole Valley (this was named in honour of the author’s links with the local area), and more – including the school Tolkien attended as a child and his childhood home.
